Privacy policy — Pastto

This privacy policy describes how the Pastto mobile application, developed by the Grazing Ecology research group (Pastopraxis) in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Bragança (IPB) and CIMO, collects, uses and protects its users' data.

1. Data controller

2. Data we collect

• Account data: name, email and password (stored in encrypted form) for account creation and authentication.
• Location (GPS): used to automatically record where each occurrence was observed and to follow the flock in the field. It is only collected while the app is in use.
• Camera, microphone and photos: used when the user records occurrences in the field (e.g. photos of predators, fires or infrastructure) or sets their profile photo.
• Push notification token: used to send alerts about occurrences and the flock.
• Device data: model and operating system, used only for technical support and troubleshooting.

3. How we use the data

The data is used exclusively for the operation of the app: authenticating the user, locating and monitoring flocks, recording occurrences in the field and sending relevant notifications. We do not sell or share data with third parties for advertising purposes.

4. Data sharing

The data is visible only to the organisation/farm the user belongs to within the platform. It may be shared with technical service providers (e.g. server hosting) only to the extent necessary to operate the app, subject to confidentiality obligations.

5. Storage and security

The data is stored on secure servers and communications between the app and the server are encrypted. We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the data against unauthorised access, loss or alteration.

6. Data retention

We keep the data while the account is active. After an account deletion request, the data is removed or anonymised, unless there is a legal obligation to retain it.

7. Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may request access to, rectification, erasure or portability of your data, and object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at pastopraxis@ipb.pt.

8. Children

The app is not intended for children under 16 years of age.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy periodically. Relevant changes will be communicated through the app or this page.
